Christina resents her mother for entering into a relationship with Comeau, who moves into the shared house. She befriends John Voss, who goes to the same school as her.
Roby often meets his father Max and his brother David, who takes drugs. The daughter of the owner of the Empire Grill , Cindy Whiting, was in love with Roby for years. Roby remembers his childhood which is shown in flashbacks .
Reviews
“A miniseries studded with actors based on a bestselling novel, which takes some time to establish and develop the large arsenal of characters, although a number of reviews of the protagonist's past and numerous subplots do not contribute to the rather leisurely pace of the overly long film increase."
Richard Roeper wrote on Ebert & Roeper that it would have been better to break the plot into several parts, as it would lose “rich tissue” through the compression .
The magazine TV Spielfilm 4/2008 wrote that the “ portrait of society” is “only gradually unfolding its magic” and that it is a “well-attended, multi-layered social study” .
