Hervé de Luze (* 1949 ) is a French film editor .

Life

Because de Luse's father worked in Gaumont's sales department , Hervé was allowed to go to every cinema free of charge with his father's ticket. Since they lived near the Champs-Élysées , where there were many cinemas and theaters, he took advantage of it about three times a week. Even as a child, de Luze wanted to work in film, but his father forbade it and so Hervé graduated from a grande école . At the same time he tried to get a scholarship to study film at UCLA . To do this, he needed letters of recommendation from three living filmmakers, at least two of whom must have worked in the United States. He got to know Henri Langlois , who promised to speak to Jean Renoir and Fritz Lang and gave him the tip if he was interested, he should not go to school but rather study the film itself. And so de Luze attended Langlois' courses to learn film editing . Due to the intensive study, he saw up to three films a day.

With La ville-bidon , de Luze was responsible for editing a film for the first time. He has worked with both Claude Berri and Alain Resnais for many years. For Berri he edited Manon's Rache and Germinal , among others , while he edited for Resnais films like Life is a Chanson and Caution Sehnsucht .

After de Luze got to know Roman Polański during the episode film The women are to blame for everything , since 1986 he has been responsible for editing with Pirates in every one of his films, with the exception of Frantic . During this time, films such as Die Nine Pforten , Oliver Twist and most recently The Ghostwriter were made . For Der Pianist , de Luze received an Oscar nomination for Best Editing in 2003 .

After his first marriage to Catherine Lacourt, Hervé de Luze is now married to the film editor Jacqueline Mariani , with whom he has three children. Hervé's sister Hélène de Luze is also an editor.
