Levan Akin

Levan Akin (born December 14, 1979 in Tumba ) is a Swedish film director and screenwriter .

Life

Levan Akin was born on December 14, 1979 in the southern Swedish city of Tumba , but has Georgian roots. He began his career as an assistant for various film productions, including for Swedish television. In 2008 he won two prizes at the Hamburg Film Festival with the short film De sista sakerna , together with co-author and film producer Erika Stark, with whom he often worked closely.

In May 2019, he will present his film As we danced as part of the Cannes International Film Festival in the Quinzaine des réalisateurs, the Directors' Fortnight. The film was released in Swedish cinemas on October 11, 2019. It is in as we danced around the first film directed in Georgian. The film was submitted by Sweden as an entry for the 2020 Academy Awards in the category of Best International Film . In late June 2020, Levan Akin became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
