Ali Abbasi

Ali Abbasi ( Persian علی عباسی; * 1981 in Tehran ) is an Iranian film director and screenwriter who lives and works in Denmark.

Life

Ali Abbasi was born in Iran and studied at the Tehran Polytechnic University until he moved to Europe in 2002 and finally settled in Stockholm, Sweden. He later studied directing at the Danish National Film School.

Abbasi made his directorial debut with the Danish-language horror film Shelley , which he presented at the 2016 Berlinale . His second film, Border , in which Swedish is spoken, is based on a short story by John Ajvide Lindqvist . This was chosen by Sweden as an Oscar entry . At the end of June 2020, Ali Abbasi became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
