Teona Strugar Mitevska ( Macedonian Теона Стругар Митевска ) (born March 14, 1974 in Skopje ) is a North Macedonian director and screenwriter .

life and work

Teona Strugar Mitevska gained her first experience as an actress in Macedonian television and theater when she was young. She later studied graphic design and worked as an art director. In 1998 she went to New York and completed her film studies at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.

Together with her siblings Labina Mitevska and Vuk Mitevski, she founded the production company Sisters and Brother Mitevski in 2001 . In the same year Teona Strugar Mitevska received the jury's special prize at the Berlinale for the short film Veta . Her first feature film How I Killed a Saint premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2004. And at the first Crossing Europe Film Festival Linz 2004, How I Killed a Saint won the Crossing Europe Award - Competition Fiction. At the Berlinale 2008, the feature film I am of Titov Veles was shown for the first time and subsequently at many festivals around the world and received international awards. The film When the Day had no Name was presented in 2017 in the Panorama section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival . Her feature film God Exists, Her Name is Petrunya received the Ecumenical Jury and Gilde Film Prize at the Berlinale 2019.

Teona Strugar Mitevska lives and works in Skopje and Brussels.
