The Oratory St-Guirec (French Oratoire de Saint-Guirec ) is a medieval prayer house in Ploumanac'h , a district of Perros-Guirec in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany . The prayer house is located on a rock in front of the beach and can be reached on foot when the tide is low. It has been classified as a Monument historique since 1903 .

history

The construction of the prayer house, which is dedicated to the local Breton saint Guirec, a companion of the holy bishop Tugdual , is not dated with certainty. An early date sees the emergence as early as the 11th century, the French monuments administration only sets the period of construction as the first half of the 13th century. It is fitting that the building shows features of the transition style from Romanesque to Gothic . The small church has a gothic pointed barrel as a canopy, which is supported by four Romanesque columns. It is open on three sides, only the back is closed.

The statue of the saint inside the prayer house is dated to the 14th century. In 1904 it was transferred to the St-Guirec chapel opposite and replaced by a copy. The statue's arms and face were vandalized in 1934 and not restored.
