Chapel of St-Guirec and Calvary

The St-Guirec is a Roman Catholic chapel in Ploumanac'h , a district of Perros-Guirec in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany . The calvary by the chapel has been classified as a monument historique since 1930 . Also classified as a monument historique is a ship model hanging in the nave as a single object.

history

The chapel, consecrated to the local Breton saint Guirec, a companion of the holy bishop Tugdual , dates back to the 14th century . A Gothic window in the shape of a nun's head and a Gothic niche inside, which houses a Madonna and Child, bear witness to the medieval building stock . The chapel was fundamentally rebuilt in the 17th century and in 1938 a southern transept was added according to plans by the architect James Bouillé. The north was built in 1948, so that the church today has the layout of a Latin cross. The chapel is located in an enclosed churchyard that was used as a cemetery until the 19th century. The Calvary there is dated to the 18th century. In 1904 a statue of Saint Guirec was transferred to the chapel from the St-Guirec oratory on a rock in the sea below .
