Radu Jude (born April 7, 1977 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Radu Jude studied at the Bucharest Media University until 2003. He worked as assistant director for Costa-Gavras on The Deputy (2002), Radu Muntean on Furia (2002) and Cristi Puiu on The Death of Mr Lazarescu . Radu Jude has won numerous film prizes, especially for his short film The Tube with a Hat , including the Sundance Film Festival , the Uppsala International Short Film Festival , Vienna Independent Shorts , Krakowski Festiwal Filmowy and the Hamburg Short Film Festival . In 2007, The Tube with a Hat was by far the most successful short film in terms of awards received at film festivals. Radu Jude also received important film prizes for his short film Alexandra , such as the main prize at the Oberhausen Short Film Festival . His first feature film The Happiest Girl in the World premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2009 and received the CICAE award there. With Everybody in Our Family he won the main prize at the Sarajevo Film Festival .

His film I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians was awarded the Crystal Globe for Best Feature Film at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2018 .
