Sarah Polley
Sarah Ellen Polley OC (born January 8, 1979 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian actress , film director and screenwriter .
life and career
Sarah Polley has four older siblings. Her parents, Diane and Michael, were actors, which brought her first roles as a child. At the age of four, she appeared in the Disney film If Dreams Were True (1985). At the age of nine she starred in The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988), a film by Terry Gilliam . When she was ten, she had a role in the television film The Power of a Child (1990). Shortly after her eleventh birthday, her mother died of cancer.
Polley devoted himself preferentially independent films . She shot several times with Atom Egoyan , whose Oscar- nominated film The Sweet Beyond (1997) brought her breakthrough. She then appeared in films by David Cronenberg , Michael Winterbottom , Isabel Coixet and Wim Wenders . Dawn of the Dead (2004), the remake of George A. Romero's classic Zombie , was her first major Hollywood film.
In 2006, Polley made her widely acclaimed directorial debut with the feature film On Her Side , for which she also wrote the screenplay. The film had its German premiere at the Berlinale 2007 in the Panorama section and was shown in German cinemas on December 6, 2007. In the same year she was appointed to the competition jury of the 60th Cannes Film Festival .
In 2017, the series Alias Grace developed by her was published.
Polley was married to the film editor David Wharnsby from 2003 to 2008 . In August 2011 she married the lawyer David Sandomierski; Their daughter was born in 2012.
