Tuomas Kantelinen (born September 22, 1969 in Kankaanpää ) is a Finnish composer and musician .

Life

Tuomas Kantelinen studied from 1988 to 1996 at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki , among others under Eero Hämeenniemi . And even before he finished his studies, he composed film music for a number of short films and documentaries. He was able to win the Finnish Jussi film award for best film music with Die Erlösung , one of his first feature films . With Rukajärven tie he won his second Jussi and with Aleksis Kiven elämä and Mosku - lajinsa viimeinen each another nomination. He had his greatest international success to date with the internationally award-winning Finnish-Swedish drama The Best Mother for which he received a 2006 nomination for best film music at the European Film Awards .

Together with the Finnish writer Paavo Haavikko he wrote an opera about the Finnish athlete Paavo Nurmi , which was performed for the first time in August 2000 in front of 20,000 spectators in the Helsinki Olympic Stadium after 2.7 million marks in production costs .
