Paul Laverty

Paul Laverty (* 1957 in Calcutta , India ) is a screenwriter . His father is of Scottish origin and his mother is Irish.

Live and act

Before starting his career as a screenwriter, he studied philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . He then studied at Strathclyde Law School in Glasgow, Scotland , where he graduated as a lawyer. Professionally he worked as a lawyer. In the 1990s he met director Ken Loach and in 1996 Laverty's first screenplay for the film Carla's Song was written . From now on Paul Laverty wrote the scripts for the films of Ken Loach almost without exception.

In 1998 Laverty was recognized for Best Screenplay at the British Independent Film Awards . Already on his debut he was nominated for the BAFTA Award . In 2004 he received a European Film Award nomination for his screenplay for Fond Kiss ..., Ae . In 2002 he was awarded for Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival . Further nominations for various film awards followed.
