Timo Salminen

Timo Oskari Salminen (born July 11, 1952 in Helsinki , Finland ) is a Finnish cameraman.

Life

Timo Salminen was born to the Finnish actor and director Ville Salminen . Timo Salminen is best known for his collaboration with the directors Mika and with Aki Kaurismäki in films such as Leningrad Cowboys Go America , Ariel , The girl from the match factory , Contract with my killer , The life of the bohemians and Le Havre . He is the son of the director Ville Salminen and brother of the actor Ville-Veikko Salminen .

Salminen won the Finnish Jussi Film Prize four times and was nominated for the European Film Prize in 2002 and 2006 .

Timo Salminen has been working with Aki Kaurismäki since 1983, the last time in his film The Other Side of Hope, which was presented at the Berlinale in 2017 . Kaurismäki says about his collaboration with Salminen in an interview with Profil.at when asked whether he still communicates with Salminen:

“Not after 36 years. We started together. We created plans and storyboards for the first two films, but then we agreed that it wouldn't work that way. Because he had a lot of work with the light, I with the storytelling. So we decided silently that he should take care of the camera, lens, and light - and I should take care of the story. It has remained that way to this day. "
