Mika Kaurismäki (born September 21, 1955 in Orimattila , Finland ) is a Finnish film director and the brother of Aki Kaurismäki .

Life

Mika Kaurismäki studied from 1977 to 1981 at the University of Television and Film in Munich . Together with his brother Aki Kaurismäki, he founded the Midnight Sun Film Festival and the distribution company Villealfa (named after Alphaville , a film by Jean-Luc Godard ).

He was twice awarded the Finnish film prize " Jussi " for best director: 1983 for the film "Die Wortlosen" ( Arvottomat ), 1992 for "Zombie and the Ghost Train" ( Zombie ja kummitusjuna ). In 1988 he won a Jussi for the best film producer of " Helsinki Napoli - All Night Long ".

Mika Kaurismäki has lived in Brazil since the early 1990s and made his last films on Brazilian topics.
