Marc Forster
Marc Forster (born November 27, 1969 in Illertissen ) is a German - Swiss film director , film producer and screenwriter . He became known for films like When Dreams Learn To Fly (2004), Stranger Than Fiction (2006), James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace (2008) and Christopher Robin (2018).
Life
Forster was born as the son of a German doctor and pharmaceutical entrepreneur in Illertissen in the Neu-Ulm district. In the early 1970s, the family achieved some prosperity thanks to his father's economic success. Since the family felt threatened by the terror of the RAF , the family emigrated to their mother's home country, Switzerland, when Forster was ninth. Together with his brother Peter he attended the Montana Institute on the Zugerberg for six years in order to obtain the Matura . After high school, Forster studied at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University in 1990 .
Career
With a budget of US $ 10,000, he made the experimental film Loungers in 1995, which won the Audience Award at the Slamdance Film Festival . Forster moved to Los Angeles in 2000 . With an amateur camera, $ 100,000, and unpaid actors and technicians, he shot the psychodrama Everything Put Together . It was his first feature film and was nominated for the Sundance Film Festival jury award.
The drama Monster's Ball was a huge success in 2001. Halle Berry became the first African American woman to win an Oscar for best actress. His semi-fictional film When dreams learn to fly , original title Finding Neverland , is about Peter Pan author JM Barrie . The story, however, differs greatly from Barrie's actual life. With Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet in the lead roles of the film for five was Golden Globe nominated and received seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor .
In 2005, the psychological thriller Stay with Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts appeared , which was praised by the critics for the technical implementation, but was often criticized as confusing and superficial. His follow-up film Weird Than Fiction is about a person who has to find out that he is a character in a novel and should die. He then made the film adaptation of the novel The Kite Runner , the first American-funded film to be played mainly among Afghans.
Marc Forster directed Quantum of Solace , the 22nd James Bond film for which Paul Haggis wrote the script. The film was shown in German cinemas from November 2008. In 2011 the film Machine Gun Preacher was released, directed by Forster. The film is based on the life of Sam Childer .
Forster participated in the HIV prevention campaign of the Federal Office of Public Health in 2005 .
From 1995 to 2011 he worked regularly with the cameraman Roberto Schaefer . From Monster's Ball to World War Z , Matt Chessé was his film editor.
