In September 2016, Amazon announced that the series would end with the second season.

action

The series is about the corrupt judge Pernell Harris, who is in a serious life crisis because his son PJ (Pernell Jr.) shot himself in the head and is in a coma. PJ's wife, Harris' daughter-in-law, was previously raped in a robbery. Then Harris finds God because, he believes, if he finds those responsible for the crime, PJ - who is given little chance by the doctors - would wake up again. On his vengeance campaign, Harris repeatedly hallucinations, in which, in his opinion, PJ speaks to him and gives him clues.

The first season ends with the death of the perpetrator of the robbery and the switching off of the life-support measures PJs, who then wakes up, but a cardiac arrest is indicated in the off.

Reviews

The reviews of the series were very different. While the response in the USA was mostly negative, German reviews were more positive.

Anna Meinecke from n-tv wrote, for example, “Sometimes' Hand of God 'is a bit too simple for those who have tried out drama series - when Harris' corrupt side is exposed, for example, with a prostitute and a spongy real estate deal. Sometimes the format is also insensitive: Jocelyn's rape seems to take the men in her life - husband and father-in-law - badly, and she herself must not position herself in a great way. Despite the small mistakes, 'Hand of God' definitely knows how to captivate. It's easier to follow the series than you might think from its subject matter. This is mainly due to the great actors. And in terms of suspense, it certainly doesn't hurt that the show is available as a whole and not just episodes. "

Joachim Huber from “Der Tagesspiegel” said: “The series is a criminal case, more of a psychological thriller. The plot has already existed one way or another, of course, what makes the series stand out from the Amazon studios, that is the second level. The story behind the story: Fanaticism, here based on religion, as a propellant, as an instrument, as a weapon. God provides the arguments, vice versa: God is the excuse. "
