Emayatzy Evett Corinealdi (born January 14, 1980 in Fort Knox , Kentucky ) is an American actress . She gained fame mainly through the roles from the series Hand of God and Ballers .

Early years

Emayatzy Corinealdi was born in Fort Knox to a Panamanian and an African American from Ohio. As a child of a military family, she spent a large part of her childhood abroad, including Germany. After graduating from school, she first learned to act at the Actor's Training Studio in New Jersey and then moved to the William Esper Studio in Manhattan . Her desire to become an actress came to her in high school when she was in high school. At the beginning of her acting training, she worked alongside, for example, as a personal trainer and assistant, before she fully focused on acting.

Career

Corinealdi's first acting roles in front of the camera include appearances in short films. It was first seen in Mortality in 2000 . In 2007 she moved to Los Angeles on the West Coast, where she got a small role in the soap Shadow of Passion . A few years later, she starred in Ava DuVernay's independent film Middle of Nowhere in 2012 . It was her first lead role in a feature film that premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival . In addition to numerous nominations, she was named Best Rising Star at the Gotham Awards .

In 2014 Corinealdi appeared as Brina in the drama Addicted . In 2015 she starred in the horror thriller The Invitation and also starred as Frances Taylor in Miles Ahead , directed by lead actor Don Cheadle . Since 2014 she has appeared as a guest actress on the series Criminal Minds , Rosewood , Roots and Evil . From 2014 to 2017 she starred as Tessie Graham in the series Hand of God . Since 2017 she has played Candace Brewe in the series Ballers . In 2019 she was seen as Tia Young in one of the leading roles in the series The Red Line . Her performance earned her a Black Reel Awards nomination .
