Zwickau University of Education
The Pedagogical University "Ernst Schneller" Zwickau was a pedagogical university with the right to award doctorates in the Karl-Marx-Stadt district , in Saxony since 1990 , which primarily served to train teachers for secondary schools , and from 1990 for a short time also for lower grades and primary schools . The Zwickau University of Education existed from 1973 to 1992, in 1990 the name was dropped.
The origin goes back to the teachers seminar founded in Zwickau in 1912 . In 1959 a pedagogical institute was founded in association with Karl-Marx-Stadt , the focus was on German, music, physical education and civics , ideological training was served by pioneer camps and a chair in Marxism-Leninism at both locations. Zwickau was designated as the main office in 1961 and has been steadily strengthened by relocating from Karl-Marx-Stadt. In 1965 Zwickau became independent and in 1969 was awarded the title " Ernst Schneller ". The survey of the University of Education with the right to award doctorates as Dr. paed. took place in 1973, followed by Dr. phil. Zwickau became the largest training focus for civics and a center for friendship pioneer leaders . After the nickname was dropped in 1990 and the lower-level teacher training from the Auerbach Institute for Teacher Training was integrated, on October 1, 1992 the affiliation to the TU Chemnitz took place . The buildings now belong to the Scheffelstrasse campus of the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau .
Rectors were Peter Franke (1972–1981), Dieter Kirchhöfer (1981–1985), Joachim Droß (1985–1989) and Elke Mehnert (1990–1992).
