Eberhard Aurich

Eberhard Aurich (born December 10, 1946 in Chemnitz ) is a former German SED functionary. He was the penultimate First Secretary of the Central Council of the FDJ in the GDR .

Life

Aurich was active as a child in the pioneer organization Ernst Thälmann and became a member of the FDJ in 1960. After attending EOS Karl Marx in Karl-Marx-Stadt and completing vocational training with a high school diploma as a concrete skilled worker, he studied at the Zwickau University of Education from 1965-69, graduating as a teacher for German and civics . At the age of 21 he became a member of the SED in 1967 .

From 1969 on he was a full-time employee of the FDJ, initially in the Karl-Marx-Stadt district management, from 1972 to 1977 in the student department in the Central Council. From 1977 to 1980 he was the first secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Karl-Marx-Stadt. In 1979 he became a member of the office of the Central Council of the FDJ. Here he was second in 1980 and since 1983, as the successor to Egon Krenz , first secretary of the Central Council of the FDJ . He was replaced in November 1989 by Frank Türkowsky , who held this position until the end of January 1990.

Aurich was also a member of the Central Committee of the SED from 1981 to 1989, a member of the People's Chamber until 1990 and a member of the Council of State from 1986 to 1990 . Aurich received the GDR Medal of Merit and the Patriotic Order of Merit in 1981 and 1984 .

From 1990 to the end of 2011 he was managing director of trainmedia GmbH , a publisher that publishes the magazine Wortspiegel and books for children with reading and spelling weaknesses .

In 1991 Aurich resigned from the PDS . In 2014, Aurich described the GDR in an interview with the Berliner Morgenpost as being aligned and organized in a Stalinist way.
