Birgit Schröder

Birgit Schröder (born January 27, 1965 in Wernigerode ) is a former German youth politician . From 1990 to 1991 she was chairwoman of the Free German Youth .

Life

Schröder, who is a crèche educator by profession, studied at the Medical School in Halberstadt . She became a member of the FDJ and the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). From 1988 to January 1990 she acted as 1st secretary of the FDJ municipal district management Magdeburg -Nord (successor to Matthias Hertel). During the turnaround and peaceful revolution in the GDR , she was elected as the first woman to chair the FDJ on January 28, 1990 at the Brandenburg Congress (successor to Frank Türkowsky ), which then adopted the abbreviation "fdj". On September 30, 1990 she was confirmed as chairperson at the program congress and was replaced by Jens Rücker at the 3rd fdj federal congress on March 17, 1991 .
