Salvador Allende district
The Salvador-Allende-Viertel ( colloquially : Allende-Viertel ) is a large housing estate in the Berlin district of Köpenick in the Treptow-Köpenick district .
history
The Allende district is a large housing estate with around 6,800 apartments built from 1971 onwards using prefabricated panels. It is named after the former Chilean President Salvador Allende . While the residential area Allende I was essentially built on former allotment garden areas ("Amtsfeld") on Pablo-Neruda- and Salvador-Allende-Strasse , the eastern residential area Allende II was built in the late 1970s south of Müggelschlößchenweg in the Kämmereiheide forest area. The owners of the rental apartments today are the Degewo housing association and the Amtsfeld housing association.
The residential area is characterized both by its location near recreational areas (forests, Spree , Müggelberge , Müggelsee ) as well as by its spacious, green courtyards. Accessed by trams and buses , the residential area has daycare centers , schools, sports and shopping facilities. The Köpenick hospital is located between Allende-Viertel I and Allende-Viertel II . On the western edge of the district was a hill - popularly known as the Schwefelberg - which was removed in 2005 due to soil contamination.
The Allende district became known nationwide in 2014 when a container village for asylum seekers was built on Alfred-Randt-Strasse in addition to the Allende Home for Refugees at Salvador Allende Strasse 89-91, which had been in existence since 2013. There were demonstrations by opponents and supporters in the vicinity of the home.
