Gjesdal is a municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Rogaland .

The municipality is bordered by the municipality of Sandnes to the north, the municipality of Sirdal in Agder to the east, Bjerkreim to the south and Time to the west . The community center in Ålgård is on the E39, 15 km from Sandnes.

About 75% of the municipality's residents live in Ålgård. 35% of the municipality's residents are under 18 years old, making the municipality the youngest population in Norway.

The casino founded by Ole Nielsen in Gjesdal at the end of the 19th century proved to be an attraction for several decades, especially for the Russian nobility.

Ålgård was the terminus of the Ganddal – Ålgård railway . Passenger traffic was discontinued in 1955.
