Sokndal is a municipality in the south of the Norwegian Fylke Rogaland . The geographic area in which the municipality is located is called Dalane . The administrative center of the municipality is in Hauge i Dalane. The rune stone Eikstein was found there in 1973 .

Sogndalstrand is a picturesque old fishing village, which perhaps explains why Sokndal became the first Norwegian municipality to become a member of Cittàslow , a movement founded in Italy in 1999 to slow down and improve the quality of life in cities.
