Kristelig Folkeparti (KrF) ( German  Christian People's Party ) is a Christian Democratic party in Norway .

The party emerged in response to the increasing secularization tendencies of the 1920s and 30s. The reason for founding the party was the failed attempt to nominate Nils Lavik as a candidate for the liberal Venstre party in the constituency of Hordaland . Ingebrigt Bjørø then called for the founding of the KrF on September 4, 1933 in Bergen . In the parliamentary elections on October 16, 1933 , Nils Lavik received over 10,000 votes and became the first Storting member of his party.

From 2001 to 2005 she formed the Norwegian government with conservatives ( Høyre ) and liberals and provided the prime minister with Kjell Magne Bondevik . She has been tolerated by the Solberg minority government since 2013 . After weeks of public debate on November 2, 2018, a party congress voted to join the government itself. The recommendation of party leader Hareide for a left alliance was rejected. In January 2019, the party joined the existing government after successful coalition negotiations . As a result, Hareide resigned from his position as chairman, but as no successor has yet been appointed, Olaug Bollestad is currently leading the party on an interim basis. On April 27, 2019, Kjell Ingolf Ropstad was elected as the new party leader.

The KrF is traditionally a member party , many members are also active in the parishes.

The KrF achieves its best results in Rogaland and on Sørlandet , in coastal locations with strongly religious communities. In the 2009 Storting election , the KrF received 30.5 and 31.7 percent respectively in the municipalities of Hægebostad and Audnedal ( Vest-Agder province ). Many active Christians live in these places, both members of the Lutheran regional church and supporters of independent congregations, such as the Pentecostal movement . Vest-Agder is also called the " buckle on the Norwegian Bible belt ". The proportion of churchgoers who attend church services more than six times a year is 33 percent and thus twice as high as the national average.
