General election in Norway in 1965
The general election in Norway in 1965 took place on September 13, 1965. It was the election for the 49th storting .
The conservative Høyre , the Center Party and especially the Venstre were able to win votes and seats. The votes of the Socialist People's Party did not pay off for the party in seats. The main loser in the election was the Social Democratic Labor Party , which lost six seats compared to 1961. This was a consequence of the Kings Bay affair , which had led to the temporary resignation of Prime Minister Einar Gerhardsen in the previous legislature . The second loser in the election was the Christian People's Party . She lost two seats.
The parliament was composed of the same six parties as in the previous legislative period. The parliamentary elections of 1965 marked an important milestone in Norwegian history as the bourgeois parties won a parliamentary majority for the first time since World War II .
