Gains and losses
The 2001 general election in Norway took place on September 10, 2001. It was the election for the 58th storting .
The Labor Party lost over 10 percentage points and achieved the worst national election result since the party's split in the 1920s. In contrast, both conservatives and socialists recorded great gains.
The new Storting consisted of the same eight parties as the outgoing parliament.
After unsuccessful explorations, the Jens Stoltenberg I government resigned and made way for a coalition of Høyre , Kristelig Folkeparti and Venstre led by Kjell Magne Bondevik .
