General election in Norway in 1936
The parliamentary election in Norway in 1936 was the last election before the start of the German occupation in World War II and took place on October 19, 1936. It was the election for the 43rd storting .
During this legislative period , the Storting decided to increase the length of a legislature to four years.
Election result
The Nygaardsvold government , a minority government of the Social Democratic Workers' Party , was confirmed. She received 70 of 150 mandates, one more than three years earlier. The second strongest party was the conservative Høyre , which also recorded the largest gains (+5.9%, 6 seats). The biggest loser in the election was the Peasant Party , which lost five seats. The Radical People's Party and the conservative Frisinnede Venstre could not move back into parliament.
The fascist Nasjonal Samling of Vidkun Quisling (1.8%) and the Communist Party (0.3%) did not move into the Storting again.
