The 2017 parliamentary elections in Norway took place on September 10 and 11, 2017. The date of the election followed the Norwegian tradition, according to which national elections also take place on a Monday in September. The starting point was the Solberg government .

Electoral system

The members of the Storting , the Norwegian national parliament, were elected . 19 were used as constituencies Fylke (provinces). In each constituency, all but one mandate was distributed according to the proportion of votes. The remaining seat served as a compensation mandate. The equalization mandates created an approximately proportional distribution of seats between the parties across the country. Compensation mandates could only be obtained by parties that received at least four percent of the votes nationwide.

A conservative coalition ( Solberg government ) had ruled since 2013 until the election . The conservative Høyre Party had formed a minority government with the right-wing populist Fremskrittspartiet , which was tolerated by Kristelig Folkeparti and the liberal Venstre Party. The strongest party, however, was the Social Democratic Labor Party , which formed the opposition together with Senterpartiet , Sosialistisk Venstreparti and Miljøpartiet De Grønne .
