General election in Norway in 1921
The general election in Norway in 1921 took place on October 24, 1921. It was the election for the 38th storting .
Election result
The biggest winners were the Social Democrats ( Norges Socialdemokratiske Arbeiderparti ), who won eight seats straight away, and the Landmandsforbund ( Federation of Farmers ), which improved its result by 14 seats.
The Labor Party , which was the only Western European mass party to join the Communist International in 1919, was only able to increase its mandates by 11 because the parliament had been enlarged by 24 seats. Their loss of votes roughly matched the gains of the Social Democratic Party, which split off in April 1921 in protest against the Workers' Party's membership in the Comintern.
The conservative alliance of Høyre and Frisinnede Venstre provided the largest parliamentary group and was able to gain eight seats. The loser in the election was the liberal Venstre , which lost 15 seats.
The number of parties represented in the Storting increased from five to six with the arrival of the Social Democrats.
