Erdoğan III cabinet
The Erdoğan III cabinet was in office from July 6, 2011 to August 28, 2014 as the 61st government of the Republic of Turkey (61st Türkiye Hükûmeti) . Recep Tayyip Erdoğan formed the cabinet after the parliamentary elections in Turkey on June 12, 2011 , in which the AKP won 327 of the 550 parliamentary seats. It was his third victory in a row (after the 2002 elections was Cabinet Erdoğan I , after the 2007 elections , the Cabinet Erdoğan II formed). Cabinet reshuffles took place on January 24th and December 25th, 2013.
All cabinet ministers were members of the AKP party .
Erdoğan missed the desired two-thirds majority in order to be able to change the constitution on his own (he also missed this in the 2002 and 2007 elections; the AKP has probably had a majority of parliamentary seats since 2002).
On December 17, 2013, there were large-scale raids and dozens of suspects were arrested. Thereafter, a corruption scandal rocked Turkey. The investigation is, among other things, about whether sanctions against Iran and illegal building permits were issued in exchange for bribes. Erdogan has called the investigation a "dirty operation" against his government; there are backers at home and abroad.
As part of this scandal, the economy, interior, environment and EU ministers came under suspicion of corruption, of which the former three offered to resign. Erdoğan then reshuffled the cabinet on December 25, 2013, in which a total of ten ministers were replaced.
The government also had 500 senior police officers removed from office (including the Istanbul Police Chief), apparently to complicate or stop the investigation. A Turkish prosecutor complained on December 26 that he had been prevented from expanding the corruption investigations into government circles. He also hinted at systematic police pressure on the judiciary.
