Nihat Zeybekçi (* 1961 in Tavas , Denizli ) is a Turkish politician , entrepreneur and former Minister of Economic Affairs. He is a member of the AKP .

biography

Nihat Zeybekçi was born in 1961 in the small town of Pınarlar , which belongs to Tavas. He studied at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Marmara University in Istanbul . He later studied political science at Istanbul University and successfully graduated. After two studies in Istanbul, he traveled to London and studied economics at South London College.

After studying in London, Zeybekçi returned to Istanbul, Turkey, and worked there for a number of years in an authority. Then he went to Denizli and has lived there ever since. Zeybekçi became managing director of a textile company in Denizli. In 1994 he founded the textile company Turkuaz Tekstil San. Ve Tic. A.Ş. Then another six branches of his company were opened in other cities in Turkey.

In the local elections on March 28, 2004, Zeybekçi was nominated by the AKP as a candidate and was elected mayor of Denizli with 51.51 percent. In the local elections on March 29, 2009, he was re-elected with 40 percent. He held this post until March 16, 2011.

During the cabinet reshuffle on December 25, 2013, he took over from Mehmet Zafer Çağlayan as Minister of Economics in the Erdoğan III cabinet , which he also held in the Davutoğlu I and II cabinets until November 24, 2015. From May 2016 to July 2018 he was again Minister of Economic Affairs, this time in the Yıldırım cabinet .

In the local elections in Turkey in 2019 , Zeybekçi ran for the AKP as mayor of Izmir, but was very clearly defeated in the stronghold of the CHP by Mustafa Tunç Soyer with 38 to 58 percent for Soyer.

In addition to Turkish , Zeybekçi is fluent in German and English . He is married and has four children.
