Naci Agbal

Naci Ağbal (born January 1, 1968 in Bayburt ) is a Turkish politician of the Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (AKP) and Minister of Finance of Turkey from 2015 to 2018 .

Life

Naci Ağbal was born in 1968 to Yakup and Minteha Ağbal. In 1989 he successfully completed a degree in political science at Istanbul Üniversitesi and began a career as a tax officer. In 1998 he completed an MBA from the University of Exeter .

In 2003 he became Head of Department in the General Directorate for Revenue and in 2007 General Director for Budget and Financial Control. In October 2008 he was appointed to the University Council (YÖK) by the Turkish government . Since March 2008 he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Ahmed Yesevi University . On June 12, 2009 he became Undersecretary of State in the Treasury.

Ağbal was one of 200 civil servants who stepped down in February 2015 to run for the general election in June 2015 . He became an AKP candidate for his hometown constituency and was elected to the Turkish Grand National Assembly in June 2015 and re-elected in the new elections in November of that year .

After the AKP won the parliamentary elections with a narrow majority, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu appointed Ağbal as finance minister in the cabinet on November 24, 2015. Ağbal succeeded Mehmet Şimşek , who was appointed deputy prime minister and who had been finance minister since 2009. In his first speech after his appointment, Ağbal presented his plans. He announced the continuation of reforms and promised that the Turkish government would not deviate from the principles of budgetary discipline. He stressed the need for strong financial structures for potential economic growth.

Private life

Naci Ağbal is married and has two children.
