Veysi Kaynak

Veysi Kaynak (born January 1, 1962 in Kahramanmaraş ) is a Turkish politician of the Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (AKP). He has been a member of the Turkish National Assembly since 2007 and was Deputy Prime Minister under Binali Yıldırım .

Life

Veysi Kaynak was born in 1962 to Yusuf Kenan and Sıdıka Kaynak in Kahramanmaraş in southeastern Turkey. He attended an İmam Hatip School in his native city until 1981 and graduated from Istanbul University in 1985 with a law degree . He then worked as a lawyer and board member in the private sector. In 1987 he became general secretary of the Islamist Refah Partisi in Kahramanmaraş.

Early on Kaynak was for the Islamist Refah Partisi of Necmettin Erbakan active in local politics. From 1989 to 1999 he was city councilor in Kahramanmaraş, chairman of the city council and deputy mayor. From January to April 1999 he was mayor of the city. From 2002 to 2007 he was chairman of the AKP provincial association in Kahramanmaraş.

In the general election in 2007 , he was elected deputy. From 2011 to 2015 he was Deputy Minister of Justice. In 2014 he also represented the Western European countries as Deputy President at the annual general meeting of the International Anti-Corruption Academy .

In 2010 he became chairman of a commission to investigate the helicopter crash in which the leader of the Büyük Birlik Partisi (BBP), Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu , was killed shortly before the 2009 local elections . He was also President of the Turkey- Bahrain Inter-Parliamentary Group .

Kaynak was re-elected in June 2015 and in the new election in November 2015 . He became a member of the Judiciary Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Security and Intelligence.

After Ahmet Davutoğlu resigned as prime minister and AKP chairman on May 5, 2016, Binali Yıldırım was elected new AKP chairman at an extraordinary party congress and two days later the new prime minister. Kaynak became Deputy Prime Minister with Nurettin Canikli , Mehmet Şimşek , Numan Kurtulmuş and Tuğrul Türkeş . He was in office until a cabinet reshuffle on July 19, 2017.

Private life

Veysi Kaynak is married to Şule Kaynak. The couple have five children.

Controversy

In 2010, Veysi Kaynak tried to bring in voting cards from MPs who were not present at the meeting. After only a few AKP MPs were present and the success of the vote in the interests of the government was jeopardized, he tried to influence the vote in favor of the government. In the vote, Kaynak presented a controversial bill to abolish prison sentences for officials and politicians who are guilty of corruption or abuse of office.
