The Natural Science Association for Swabia (nwvs) is a scientific, non-profit association that was founded as a natural history association in Augsburg in 1846 and renamed the Natural Science Association for Swabia and Neuburg (aV) in 1887 .

Tasks, goals, achievements

The association is one of the oldest nature conservation associations in Bavaria and has accordingly contributed a lot to the knowledge of regional nature. Its purpose is to maintain and support scientific research, promote species and biotope protection and environmental protection. The nwvs is a member of the German Nature Conservation Ring .

The nwvs sees its core task in researching and describing the nature of Bavarian Swabia and passes on its findings to the public and the specialist authorities in lectures, excursions and regular research reports. Specialized publications and annual reports are also sent to interested libraries in Germany and abroad. In addition to its research, the association also carries out practical landscape and biotope maintenance and works on specialist committees.

The Natural Science Association for Swabia has around 450 members. The 6-member board is supported by an advisory board. The association maintains working groups for the following fields: botany , ornithology , entomology , geology , nature photography and nature conservation .
