Nurettin Canikli (born on 15. May 1960 in Alucra , province of Giresun ) is a Turkish politician of the ACP . He was Turkish Defense Minister from July 2017 to 2018.

Life

After primary and secondary school, which Cankili attended in his hometown, he obtained his university degree at the İmam Hatip School in Giresun . Cankili began his academic career at the Faculty of Political Science at Ankara University ( Bachelor ) and then obtained a Master’s degree from the University of Sheffield . He worked in various positions at the Ministry of Finance of Turkey, at the same time as a columnist for the daily newspaper Yeni Şafak .

Cankili is married and has four children.

Cankili is a founding member of the Justice and Recovery Party (AKP) and has been an uninterrupted MP for Giresun since the 2002 general election . He was Minister for Customs and Trade in the Davutoğlu I cabinet . Before moving to the Ministry of Defense in the cabinet of Binali Yıldırım , he was one of Yıldırım's deputies.

In August 2017 Canikli criticized James N. Mattis for the US arms deliveries to the Kurdish militia YPG .
