Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya

Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya (born January 31, 1981 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish politician of the AKP and was Minister for Family and Social Policy in the Yıldırım cabinet from May 2016 to July 2018 .

Life

Kaya attended elementary school in Fatih and grammar school in Beyoğlu. Because of her good results at the entrance exam, she received a scholarship and studied electrical engineering at Bilkent University . Kaya did her PhD in New York for a study on thermography in breast cancer. Kaya then studied medicine at the Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty of Istanbul University .

Between 2009 and 2012 she was on the board of the AKP as an advisor to the then party leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan . In the early parliamentary elections in November 2015 , Kaya won a mandate for the Grand National Assembly of Turkey , where she represents the Second Istanbul constituency as a member of parliament.

On March 11, 2017, the Dutch police stopped a company car with Betül Sayan Kaya in Rotterdam and escorted her to the German-Dutch border, through which the minister had secretly entered. The officially "unwanted foreigner" Kaya was denied access to the Turkish consulate, where she wanted to do election propaganda for the referendum in Turkey in 2017 , despite being banned from appearing .

Kaya is married and has two children. Her brother Ömer Fatih Sayan heads the Turkish regulatory authority for information technology and telecommunications.
