Nabi Avcı

Nabi Avcı (born October 8, 1953 in Bilecik ) is a Turkish politician of the Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi .

Life

Avcı graduated from the Political Science Faculty of the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. He finished his studies in 1978. He obtained his doctorate in 1986. He taught philosophy and communication sociology at Anadolu University in Eskişehir and at Bilgi University in Istanbul. In 1986 he was involved in the founding of the daily newspaper Zaman and in 1994 in the founding of Yeni Şafak , for which he wrote for years and of which he was temporarily editor-in-chief. He also worked as a presenter for the TV channel Kanal 7 .

He also worked as an advisor to the Minister of Education and the Prime Minister. In 2011 he was elected as a member of the AKP for Eskişehir in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

Avcı was appointed Minister of Education in Turkey in the Erdoğan III cabinet on January 24, 2013 as the successor to Ömer Dinçer . Previously, he was chairman of the Parliament's Education Committee. From May 24, 2016 to July 19, 2017, he was Minister of Culture and Tourism in the Yıldırım cabinet .

Avcı is married and has five children.
