The Anadolu University (Turkish: Anadolu Üniversitesi, German meaning: University of Anatolia) is a state university in Eskişehir in Turkey. In terms of the number of students, it is one of the largest universities in the world.

history

The Eskişehir Academy of Economics and Commerce , which laid the foundation stone of Anadolu University, was founded in 1958. In 1982 the Academy of Economics and Commerce in Eskişehir, the State Academy of Engineering and Architecture in Eskişehir, the Faculty of Medicine in Eskişehir, the University of Foreign Languages ​​and the universities of applied sciences in Kütahya , Afyon , Bilecik and Bolvadin under the name Anadolu -University together. The founding rector of the university was the future mayor of Eskişehir, Yılmaz Büyükerşen .

In 1992, the academic units of Anadolu University in Kütahya formed Dumlupinar University and the academic units in Afyon formed Kocatepe University. In 1993 the faculties of medicine, engineering and architecture as well as the faculty of humanities and natural sciences separated from Anadolu University and merged under the roof of the Osmangazi University, which was newly founded in Eskişehir.

After the new regulation that came into force in 1993, Anadolu University consists of the following faculties:

The distance learning method is used at the distance learning faculties for economics and business administration as well as at the distance learning faculty ; on the other hand, there is the possibility that students at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences can also do evening classes.

The Cologne contact point offers distance learning courses in the fields of business administration, economics, foreign trade and tourism and hotel management for Turkish citizens in Germany and other Western European countries.

Four-year courses are offered at the State Conservatory , the University of Physical Education and Sport, Integration of the Disabled and Civil Aviation and the Business School for Tourism and Hotel Industry. Two -year courses are offered at the universities of applied sciences in Bilecik , Bozüyük and Eskişehir .

Institutes and affiliated universities

At Anadolu University there are also the following institutes which, in addition to master's and doctoral programs, can also conduct various types of research:

Anadolu University is the only institution in Turkey that has given the opportunity to university studies through distance learning since 1982 . Over a million external students have taken part in distance learning to date.

The civil aviation and disabled integration colleges affiliated with Anadolu University are the only colleges in the country in these fields.
