İsmet Yılmaz

İsmet Yılmaz (born December 10, 1961 in Gürün ) is a Turkish lawyer, engineer and politician of the Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (AKP). Yılmaz was Turkey's Minister of Education from May 2016 to July 2018.

Life

İsmet Yılmaz studied at İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi . In 2007 he was Turkey's Minister of Transport for a few months. He became Turkey's Defense Minister on July 7, 2011 as the successor to Mehmet Vecdi Gönül in the Erdoğan III cabinet . After the general election in June 2015 , Yılmaz was elected President of Parliament. However, when no government could be formed, there were new elections in November 2015 , which the AKP won. In the following cabinet, Yılmaz was again Minister of Defense. On May 24, 2016, he was appointed Minister of Education in the cabinet of Binali Yıldırım . He held this position until July 9, 2018.

Yılmaz is married and has three children.
