İsmet Kaya Erdem

İsmet Kaya Erdem (* 1928 in Safranbolu ) is a Turkish politician and former President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

He graduated from the Academy of Economics in İstanbul . From 1959 to 1966 Erdem worked as a professor at the Academy for Economics and Commerce in Eskişehir . Between 1978 and 1980 he was Secretary General of the Treasury ( hazine ) in the Prime Minister's Office . From 1976 to 1977 Erdem was Director General of the Social Insurance Fund ( SSK ). He was Finance Minister in the Bülent Ulusu government from 1980 to 1982. Erdem was elected member of the Anavatan Partisi in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for the province of İzmir . In January 1983 Erdem became Deputy Prime Minister in the Turgut Özal government . Erdem left the government because of disagreements over Turgut Özal's understanding of politics. Erdem was elected President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

Erdem was a member of the İzmir Province four times in a row from 1983 to 1999.

He is married and has two children.
