Mehmet Ali Şahin

Mehmet Ali Şahin (born September 16, 1950 in Ekincik Village, Ovacık County, Karabük Province ) is a Turkish lawyer, politician and former Minister of Justice .

He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University . After that, Şahin worked as a freelance lawyer. Şahin was also the mayor of Istanbul's Fatih District . He is a founding member of the Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (AKP) and was a member of the AKP for the province of İstanbul in the 20th, 21st and 22nd legislative periods of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey . In addition, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State in the 58th ( Gül Cabinet ) and 59th ( 1st Erdoğan Cabinet ) government of the Republic of Turkey. In the 60th government ( Erdoğan II cabinet ) he was Minister of Justice from August 29, 2007 to May 1, 2009. On August 5, 2009, after three rounds of voting, he was elected 24th Speaker of Parliament. He was replaced in this position in 2011 by Cemil Çiçek .

Şahin is married and has four children.
