Hüseyin Çelik
Hüseyin Çelik (born March 5, 1959 in Gürpınar County, Van Province ) is a Turkish university professor, politician and former Minister of Education.
Life
Hüseyin Çelik's family on his father's side are Arab immigrants from Tillo in Siirt and, as sayyids (descendants of the Prophet), were a spiritually influential family. The maternal family are Kurds from Van. Hüseyin Çelik graduated from the Faculty of Literature and Turkish Language at the University of İstanbul . He then received his Masters in Turkish Literature at the Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi in Van and a Masters in Turkish Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies . Çelik wrote his doctoral thesis at the Institute of Social Sciences (Department of New Turkish Literature ) at the University of İstanbul. In 1997 Çelik became a lecturer at the Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi. He worked as a university professor and as a division manager for Turkish language and literature at the same university. Hüseyin Çelik has published more than 15 books on Turkish culture, political history and literature.
Çelik is married and has three children.
Political activity
Hüseyin Çelik is a founding member of Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (AKP). Çelik was AKP MP for Van Province in the 21st and 22nd legislative periods of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey . He was also Minister of Culture in the 58th Government of the Republic of Turkey, Gül Cabinet , and in the 59th ( I. Erdoğan Cabinet ) Government of the Republic of Turkey, he was Minister of Education. His successor in office was Nimet Çubukçu after a cabinet reshuffle since May 1, 2009 .
