Kemal Unakıtan

Kemal Unakıtan (born February 14, 1946 in the village of Domurcalı, Edirne Province , † October 12, 2016 in İstanbul ) was a Turkish economist, politician and finance minister.

Unakıtan graduated from the Academy of Economics and Commerce in Ankara . He then worked as a calculation expert in the Ministry of Finance.

Unakıtan general manager and financial coordinator was the Birko Commerce and Industry AG ( Birko Ticaret ve Sanayi AŞ ), Deputy Director General, Director General and Member of the Executive Committee of the cellulose and paper mills Turkey ( Türkiye ve selüloz KAGIT Fabrikaları'nda (SEKA) ), Director General of Textile company Bahariye ( Bahariye Mensucat ), member of the management board of the Albaraka Türk financial group, general director and member of the management board of BEM foreign trade company and member of the supervisory board of the Family Finans financial group.

Unakıtan was a member of the Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi (AKP) for the province of İstanbul in the 22nd legislative period of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey . He was also Minister of Finance in the 58th ( Gül Cabinet ) and 59th ( 1st Erdoğan Cabinet ) government of the Republic of Turkey. Unakıtan had been a member of the Second Erdoğan Cabinet of the AKP government under Erdoğan since August 29, 2007 , again in the role of finance minister. He held this office until May 1, 2009.

Unakıtan was married and had three children. In addition to Turkish, he also spoke English.
