Murat Başesgioğlu (born March 1, 1955 in Kastamonu ) is a Turkish politician and former minister.

Life

Başesgioğlu graduated from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University . Then he worked as a freelance lawyer.

From 1987 to 2002 Murat Başesgioğlu was a member of the center-right motherland party (ANAP) for the province of Kastamonu for 4 terms in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey . In the 55th government of the Republic of Turkey from 1997 to 199, Başesgioğlu was Minister of the Interior.

In the 22nd legislative period from 2002 to 2007 he was a member of the conservative Islamic AKP for the province of İstanbul . In the Gül Cabinet and the Erdoğan I Cabinet , he was Minister of Labor and Social Security from 2002 to 2007. Başesgioğlu became a member of the Second Erdoğan Cabinet as Minister of State in 2007 . In the Erdoğan II cabinet, as Minister of State from 2007 to 2009, he was responsible, among other things, for the coordination of collective bargaining and administered the Presidium for state officials. Başesgioğlu left the AKP in 2009 and later joined the far-right MHP .

Başesgioğlu speaks French, is married and has two children.
