Faik Öztrak (born March 26, 1954 in Ankara ) is a Turkish politician of the Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP). From 2010 to 2015 he was Vice Chairman of the CHP. Since 2007 he has been a member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly for Tekirdağ .

Life

Faik Öztrak was born in 1954 in Ankara as the son of the former Interior Minister Orhan Öztrak and his wife Ayten. He is the grandson of the former Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Faik Öztrak and nephew of the TRT General Secretary Adnan Öztrak and the former Minister of State İlhan Öztrak .

Öztrak attended the Lycée Saint-Joseph in Istanbul until 1973 and graduated in 1977 from the Department of Economics and Finance at Ankara Universitesi . He received a Masters Degree in Development Finance from the University of Birmingham .

In 1978 Öztrak started at the State Planning Office of Turkey. As a specialist in financial matters, Öztrak has been involved in negotiations on an international level. After 1987 he was head of the annual programs and finance department, deputy head of the economic planning department, director of economic planning and deputy undersecretary of state. From 2000 he worked in the banking regulation and supervisory authority, where he was vice president. After the Turkish financial crisis in 2001, he became part of a new department for economic issues in the Ministry of Finance.

After the parliamentary elections in Turkey in 2002 , Öztrak left the Ministry of Finance in 2003 and wrote columns on economic topics for the daily Milliyet . He was also visiting professor in the Department of Economics at the Technical University of the Middle East and taught macroeconomics . He also briefly taught at the Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi . He was also the co-author of a study on Turkey's accession negotiations with the European Union with experts from the Center for European Policy Studies (CEPS).

In 2007, Öztrak became a member of the Turkish National Assembly for the constituency of Tekirdağ. In 2011, as well as in June and November 2015, he was re-elected to parliament. Between 2010 and 2014 he was Deputy Chairman of the CHP and responsible for economic policy and later for the employers' associations.
