The Devlet Planlama Teşkilatı , abbreviated to DPT , was formerly one of the most influential central authorities in Turkey . Its official name was Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Başbakanlığı Devlet Planlama Teşkilatı Müsteşarlığı . Translated, the official title means: "State Secretariat State Planning Office of the Prime Minister's Office of the Republic of Turkey". It was headed by a State Secretary . The Ministry of Development has performed this task since 2011 .

history

The DPT was founded after the military coup in 1960 on September 30th of the same year at the behest of the National Unity Committee . In the constitution of 1961 , the creation of development plans was given constitutional status. From 1963 the Council of Ministers drew up five-year plans (Beş Yıllık Kalkınma Planları), which were examined by the “High Planning Council” ( Yüksek Planlama Kurulu ) and the planning office was responsible for their implementation.

Due to the increasing liberalization of economic policy and the sale of the state-owned companies called Kamu iktisadi teşebbüsleri , the planning authority had lost its importance in the last few years of its existence. In June 2011, Law No. 641 in the newly created Ministry of Development ( T.C. Kalkınma Bakanlığı in Turkish ) passed it on.

tasks

The tasks of the DPT consisted of economic assessments, advice and support of development plans, observation of public expenditure, advisory function in the area of money and financial markets, participation in contacts and discussions with international institutions.

Trivia

The well-known conservative politician Turgut Özal began his career in the State Planning Office. The current Minister for Development Lütfi Elvan also started his professional career at the DPT, where he was Deputy State Secretary in the 2000s.
