Rüştü Kazım Yücelen

Rüştü Kazım Yücelen (* 1948 in Anamur , Mersin Province , † February 2, 2014 in Ankara ) was a Turkish politician who was a member of the Grand National Assembly for 19 years and was temporarily a minister.

Life

After attending school, Yücelen studied economics at the University of Istanbul and then worked as an independent accountant as well as for the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Chamber of Crafts. Later he was a partner at Yücelen Unternehmensberatung.

He began his political career as a candidate for the Motherland Party (ANAP) founded by Turgut Özal , when he was first elected as a member of the Grand National Assembly in the parliamentary elections on November 6, 1983, and was a member of the Grand National Assembly until the parliamentary election on November 3, 2002 . After Turgut Özal's resignation as chairman of the motherland party, he was already one of the supporters of Mesut Yılmaz on November 16, 1989 when he was running for the new party chairman. However, Yılmaz was subject to a short time before the successor Özal for Prime Minister elected Yıldırım Akbulut , but was finally elected on June 15, 1991 as his successor as party leader.

On June 23, 1991, Yücelen was appointed as the successor to Şükrü Yürür by Prime Minister Mesut Yılmaz as Minister of Industry and Trade ( Sanayi ve Ticaret Bakanı ) in the 48th Government of Turkey and belonged to this until the end of Yılmaz's term of office on November 20, 1991 on.

Prime Minister Yılmaz appointed him on June 30, 1997 to the 55th government of Turkey, in which he was one of the ministers of state ( Devlet Bakanı ) until January 11, 1999 . During a trip to Macedonia he suffered serious injuries in a traffic accident and was in hospital for a long time.

In the 57th government formed by Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit on May 28, 1999, Yücelen was again Minister of State and as such has been responsible for human rights since Mehmet Ali İrtemçelik's resignation on May 6, 2000 . On June 6, 2001, as part of a cabinet reshuffle, he was appointed Minister of the Interior ( İçişleri Bakanı ) as the successor to Sadettin Tantan and retained this position until he was replaced by Muzaffer Ecemiş on August 5, 2002.
