Ethem Menderes

İbrahim Ethem Menderes (* 1899 in Aydın , † September 18, 1992 in Ankara ) was a Turkish politician, Minister of Interior and Defense of Turkey .

In 1919 he graduated from the Yeditepe Military High School in İstanbul and in 1923 the Faculty of Law at Darülfünun . In 1924 Menderes began to work as a judge at the 16th High Constitutional Court in Ankara. He was in the IX., X. and XI. Legislative period Member of the Aydın Province in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey . In the Second Menderes Cabinet (1958-1960) Ethem Menderes was Minister of the Interior. In the III. and V. Menderes Cabinet, he was Minister of Defense.

In 1962 he founded the Menderes construction company. He remained director of the company until his death. In 1978 he received the award for the best company director. After the military coup of September 12, 1980 , he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for embezzlement in a state tender. After his imprisonment in 1992, he suffered a cerebral haemorrhage and died.

His grave is in the Zincirlikuyu Cemetery in Istanbul.
