Necmettin Sadak

Necmettin Sadık Sadak (* 1890 in Isparta , † September 21, 1953 in New York City ) was a Turkish diplomat, journalist and foreign minister of Turkey .

He was born to Sadık Şihabeddin Bey in 1890. Sadak attended elementary school in Edirne and middle school in İzmir and Konya . After his father was promoted to court president in Istanbul, Sadak graduated from Galatasaray high school in 1910. He then graduated from the University of Lyon ( human sciences ) and returned in 1914. During his time in France he wrote for the newspaper Le Progrès and made his first experiences as a journalist. Sadak worked as a translator in the Ministry of Education. In 1916 he became assistant professor of sociology at the University of İstanbul. Sadak got the professorship for sociology after the loss of Ziya Gökalp .

In 1918 he and some friends founded the daily Akşam , whose owner and author he remained until his death. He was the newspaper's first editor-in-chief. Sadak supported the Turkish Liberation War with articles in the newspaper. From 1928 to 1950 he was a member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly for the Sivas Province . Between 1925 and 1926, Sadak was president of the Galatasaray football club .

Sadak was a delegate of the Republic of Turkey at the Geneva Disarmament Conference of 1932, the Treaty of Montreux of 1936 and the League of Nations . In the 1930s and early 1940s Sadak belonged to the faction within the then state party CHP that sympathized with Nazi Germany , which was also reflected in the orientation of the newspaper. On January 16, 1947, he became Foreign Minister. Sadak remained in office until the Democratic Party's election victory on May 22, 1950.

Sadak wrote the book Sosyoloji in 1936. It was used in secondary schools for years.

Sadak died of cancer in Memorial Hospital on September 21, 1953.
