Emre Gönensay

Emre Gönensay (* 1937 in İstanbul ) is a Turkish economist, bureaucrat, politician and former Foreign Minister of Turkey.

Gönensay graduated from Robert College and Columbia University . He wrote his master's thesis at Columbia University and his doctoral thesis at the London School of Economics . He then worked at the Boğaziçi Üniversitesias a university professor for economics. Between 1972 and 1976 Gönensay was head of the Faculty of Labor Administration and Economics. Between 1970 and 1980 he was general director of large Turkish companies and banks. Between 1991 and 1993 he was Ambassador Plenipotentiary to the Prime Minister's Advisor. Between 1993 and 1995, Gönensay was Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the President's Advisor. Between December 1994 and 1995 he was again plenipotentiary ambassador to the Prime Minister's advisor.

In the parliamentary elections of 1995 Gönensay was elected as a member of the Antalya Province for the Doğru Yol Partisi of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey . Gönensay was Foreign Minister between March 6, 1996 and June 28, 1996.

At the 55th Bilderberg Conference in June 2007 in İstanbul, Gönensay was one of 13 Turkish participants.

Gönensay is currently a university professor at Işık Üniversitesi .
