The True Path Party (German for True Path Party , acronym DYP ) is a center-right oriented Turkish Party, which in 1983 by Süleyman Demirel as the successor to his former Justice Party ( Adalet Partisi was founded, AP). In 2007 it was renamed the Democratic Party (DP) (based on the historic Democratic Party of 1946, the predecessor of the AP).

The DYP was a moderately conservative party that has participated in four governments since its inception, including a. under Prime Minister Süleyman Demirel (1991–1993) and Tansu Çiller (1993–1996). After the election defeat in 2002, when the entry into parliament was missed, Tansu Çiller resigned as party leader; He was succeeded by Mehmet Ağar . However, due to conversions, the DYP was represented in parliament with four members (as of July 20, 2007 ). Since the parliamentary elections in Turkey in 2011 , it has been without parliamentary representation.

Association and start-up

In the course of the 2007 parliamentary elections , a merger with the Motherland Party (ANAP) under the name Democratic Party was planned. After the DYP renamed itself, the merger failed. Nevertheless, the Democrat Parti, and not the DYP, ran for parliamentary elections.

In 2007, former members of the party who did not agree to the renaming re-established the party.
